Core Units

• Academic Study Skills for Engineering and Technology: You will gain the fundamental academic and research skills required for degree level study. The unit will introduce you to a broad grounding in literature searching, literature review, data collection, methodological approach, data analysis and interpretation and ethical practice. It will also support you to begin to develop a critical and analytical approach to your work and identify areas for personal development.
• Introduction to Computers: This unit will enable you to develop a basic knowledge and understanding of computer technology and its role in the modern world. It will also cover a range of practical computing skills and techniques you will need to be prepared for studying at degree level.
• Mathematics for Engineering and Technology: Mathematics develops analytical and problem-solving skills and provides the knowledge to solve engineering and coding problems. This unit will provide you with confidence in mathematics and enable you to perform calculations on a range of scientific data from engineering, creative technologies and computing disciplines.
• Introduction to Information Systems Analytics: Most computer applications are part of a greater system focused on the needs of an organisation. It is therefore important to understand an organisation鈥檚 processes, needs and objectives allowing appropriate systems to be designed and implemented. This unit covers the approaches and methods by which such factors can be investigated, modelled and understood, within the context of computing technology.
• Introduction to Programming: In this unit you will develop a basic knowledge and understanding of computing programming and demonstrate basic coding and problem solving skills through the design, build and testing of a small application.
• Foundation Year Engineering and Technology Project: You will design, carry out and report on an engineering or technological investigation, based on an agreed topic chosen by the unit leader. You will carry out a research task for further investigation. With a focus on global context and sustainability, the student will also produce a literature review.

Elective unit:

• Software Business:听Gain a deeper understanding of the unique aspects of software business, the various business models and innovations. Suited to those interested in setting up a software company

You鈥檒l complete a minimum 30-week work placement which can be carried out anywhere in the world. The placement year offers a chance to gain experience and make contacts for the future.听听Students who successfully complete the one year placement will be awarded a degree in sandwich mode.

A placement should be a highly rewarding experience for you and the employing company and we do our best to ensure that everyone involved feels that they have got the most that they can from the experience.

You will begin your placement after completion of your second year of study and you must complete a minimum of 30 weeks.

Access蜜桃AV: Access蜜桃AV provides you with the opportunity to tell us about your circumstances that are not always evident in your UCAS application. This widening access initiative also considers relevant criteria such as being in care or if you live in an area with a low participation rate in Higher Education - if you are eligible, your offer could be up to 16 UCAS tariff points below the published tariff.

Apprenticeships: We recognise the transferable knowledge and skills gained through apprenticeships and welcome applications from students with a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship recognised by the Institute for Apprenticeships. Each application will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Deferred entry: We are happy to consider eligible applicants for deferred entry. If you have already submitted your application, please submit your deferral request through our website.听

Direct entry: We welcome applications from students who have previously studied at degree level at other institutions and wish to transfer onto a 蜜桃AV course. Our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) procedure enables credit awarded from one institution to contribute to a 蜜桃AV award, subject to an application process. Mature applicants: We recognise that mature applicants may have a wealth of experience rather than formal qualifications, so we鈥檒l consider your application on these merits if included in your application. You鈥檒l need to apply to 蜜桃AV in the usual way through UCAS and you may be invited to an interview to discuss your suitability for the course based on the experience you tell us about in your application.

You will need to be hard-working and committed to your studies, be a good team player, and able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

We select candidates for this course by looking at your application; there are usually no interviews or selection activities needed. For that reason, make sure your application really stands out from the crowd, and leave us in no doubt as to why you should be joining 蜜桃AV. We look at individual applications and make a tailored offer based on your potential to succeed on the course considering a range of factors, including your academic achievements, work and other experience, reference and personal statement, and in some cases, your performance at an interview or a portfolio review. Typically, we make an offer at the bottom of the tariff range.

If you are unable to meet the entry requirements, we may be able to make you an offer through Access蜜桃AV if you meet certain criteria e.g. you have been in care or live in an area where fewer people typically progress to Higher Education. If you don't meet our published tariff, we will accept you at least 8 points below if your personal circumstances match our Access蜜桃AV criteria.听

Our offer-making will typically be based on your most recent qualifications, including any required subjects where applicable. We'll consider all qualifications when assessing your application, although these may not be part of our offer.

If you do not meet the criteria of your original offer, we may still offer you a place. We will review your whole application and consider all academic qualifications (including those not in the offer) to see if you have the academic potential to succeed on the course. If we feel the answer is yes, we will confirm your place.

Additional costs

We are committed to offering you value for money and ensuring there are no hidden costs while you are studying with听us, therefore we have listed below any additional costs you may incur that are not covered by your tuition fee:

• Textbooks, general stationery and other supplies. Our award-winning library is stocked with a large range of textbooks and online resources, free of charge. The Students鈥� Union shop stocks a wide range of stationery supplies.

• Travel costs to and from the University campus. An annual bus pass is included in your rent if you are living in halls of residence/Unilet accommodation or may听be purchased separately.

• Travel costs for optional field trips, outdoor wear and footwear for mandatory and optional field trips (if applicable).

While all aspects of the programme, including required field trips, are included in the fee, additional, optional or extra curricula activities may be available for which a student contribution is required.

If you need to repeat one or more units during the course of your studies (with or without attendance) the pricing will be pro-rata of the full time fee.

Dr 脟agatay Y眉cel is a Lecturer in Computer Science (Cybersecurity) in the Department of Computing & Informatics at 蜜桃AV. Prior to this post, he worked as a Postdoctoral researcher and Threat Intelligence Analyst at 蜜桃AV CERT. Yucel received his PhD in 2019 with the thesis titled 鈥淚maging and Evaluating the Memory Access for Malware鈥�. He has specialised and published in the fields of malware analysis, reverse engineering and cyber threat intelligence.

I am a lecturer in Computing at 蜜桃AV. I joined 蜜桃AV in March 2015. Prior to this I held a teaching position covering a range of computing subjects. I received my PhD in 2010 from Brunel University. The thesis was titled 鈥淒ata Cleaning Techniques for Software Engineering Data Sets 鈥�. Towards the end of my doctorate I also worked as a research assistant on an EPSRC funded project entitled "Using Program Slicing to Size Code Change".

Dr Jane Henriksen-Bulmer is a Principal Academic whose research centres around Privacy, Cyber Security and managing privacy risk, both on an individual and organisational level. She also actively carries out research on Open Data and how privacy can be incorporated into safeguarding and helping Young People and Children stay safe online.

The latest research project that Dr Henriksen-Bulmer is instrumental in implementing is a Campus wide rollout of Cybersecurity training to all 18,000 蜜桃AV's students. The aim of the project is to facilitate students in building cyber awareness and cyber resilience irrespective of the industry or academic discipline.

Dr Henriksen-Bulmer is Level Tutor for the second year cohort across all 8 UG programmes, having previously acted as Placement Tutor for the department the past 4 years.

Working closely with Industry, Dr Henriksen-Bulmer currently teaches UG Business Analytics (L4) and Business Development & Enterprise (L6), as well as regularly providing Guest Lectures on her area of expertise, Privacy. Previously she has taught Business Continuity, Information Assurance and Business System Analysis and Design.

Dr Henriksen-Bulmer is an experienced researcher with experience of both leading research projects, including (HEIF and Cyber ASAP), and supporting a number of prominent Cyber security projects including ECHO, Ideal Cities, CyGamBIT, Cairis and HuaHana.

Dr Henriksen-Bulmer's PhD focused on privacy, GDPR, risk and organisational decision making, looking at how business can incorporate contextual nuances into their privacy and risk decision making processes. Previous to this she gained an MSc in Information Technology from 蜜桃AV; an MBA from Curtin University in Perth, Western Australia, and a Bachelor of Law from the Open University.

Coming from an industry background Dr Henriksen-Bulmer has a wide ranging experience of running and managing businesses and change including business process improvement. This has strongly influenced her research topic of privacy and risk and how she can best use her research and outputs to influence, assist and support businesses in a practical manner by providing practical tools, guidance and assistance to professionals in the field.

Professor Huseyin Dogan joined 蜜桃AV (蜜桃AV) in 2012. He is a听 Professor in Human Computer Interaction and the Director of the Computing and Informatics Research Centre.

Professor Dogan is Co-founder and Co-chair of the Human Computer Interaction (HCI) research group; and the Leader of the Research Excellence Framework (REF) Unit of Assessment 11: Computer Science & Informatics. His research focuses on Human Factors, Assistive Technology, Digital Health and Systems Engineering.

Prior to this, Professor听Dogan led the postgraduate courses (2012-2015) and then the undergraduate courses (2015-2017) in Computing at 蜜桃AV, managing over 900 students. He is also the Co-Founder of four MSc programmes: (1) MSc Digital Health; (2) MSc Digital Health & Artificial Intelligence; (3) MSc Cyber Security & Human Factors; (4) MSc Marketing & User Experience.

Dr Sermet Mir is a Lecturer (Academic) in Computer Science at the department of Computing & Informatics, 蜜桃AV. He successfully attained his PhD degree, titled "An Efficient Model for Representing Sparkle Effects in Automotive Paints," in the year 2020.

Dr Mir has been teaching various subjects in the field of Data Science for the past 10 years, while also assuming responsibilities in academic projects. Furthermore, his professional portfolio boasts an international experience. In 2017, he served as a researcher intern at the Research and Development centre of Siemens Healthineers in Princeton, NJ, USA. During this period, he contributed to the field of Image Visualization.
