Core Units

• Academic Study Skills for Engineering and Technology: You will gain the fundamental academic and research skills required for degree level study. The unit will introduce you to a broad grounding in literature searching, literature review, data collection, methodological approach, data analysis and interpretation and ethical practice. It will also support you to begin to develop a critical and analytical approach to your work and identify areas for personal development.
• Introduction to Computers: This unit will enable you to develop a basic knowledge and understanding of computer technology and its role in the modern world. It will also cover a range of practical computing skills and techniques you will need to be prepared for studying at degree level.
• Mathematics for Engineering and Technology: Mathematics develops analytical and problem-solving skills and provides the knowledge to solve engineering and coding problems. This unit will provide you with confidence in mathematics and enable you to perform calculations on a range of scientific data from engineering, creative technologies and computing disciplines.
• Introduction to Information Systems Analytics: Most computer applications are part of a greater system focused on the needs of an organisation. It is therefore important to understand an organisation鈥檚 processes, needs and objectives allowing appropriate systems to be designed and implemented. This unit covers the approaches and methods by which such factors can be investigated, modelled and understood, within the context of computing technology.
• Introduction to Programming: In this unit you will develop a basic knowledge and understanding of computing programming and demonstrate basic coding and problem solving skills through the design, build and testing of a small application.
• Foundation Year Engineering and Technology Project: You will design, carry out and report on an engineering or technological investigation, based on an agreed topic chosen by the unit leader. You will carry out a research task for further investigation. With a focus on global context and sustainability, the student will also produce a literature review.

• Mathematics for Computing -听this unit will equip you with the mathematical knowledge for modelling and solving real-world computing problems.
• Programming -听develop the skills and understanding to implement software solution to different problems whilst gaining hands-on experience in programming and testing.听
• Data Management -听develop practical expertise in database querying and the application of the database design techniques.
• Introduction to Reliable Computing -听gain an introduction to the concepts of modelling and system analysis in a team approach.

• Computing and Society -听learn about mapping computer techniques, concepts and principles in line with sustainability.听听

• Communications and Networking -听gain an understanding of the theory and practice of data communications and computer networks.
• Software Engineering -听learn about the theory and practice of software engineering such as the software development process.
• Systems Analysis and Design -听Explore the nature of software development with an emphasis on 鈥榰pstream鈥� development and discover the challenges associated with the process.听
• Data Structures and Algorithms -听learn about the theory and applications of fundamental data structures and algorithms, implementing them in real world applications.听
• Technological Innovations in Computing -听gain practical knowledge of current and emerging technological innovations, building on previous programming knowledge in a team approach.

Elective Units

• Software Business -听gain a deeper understanding of the unique aspects of software business, the various business models and innovations. Suited to those interesting in setting up a software company.听

You鈥檒l complete a minimum 30-week work placement which can be carried out anywhere in the world. The placement year offers a chance to gain experience and make contacts for the future.

Although you will be enrolled onto the four-year degree (including the placement), you听can opt out of the placement element to complete your degree in three years.

• Individual Project - the Individual Project is an opportunity to pursue a topic of your choice. You鈥檒l identify a problem and then select and implement a solution to solving that problem.听听

Option units

• Deep Learning and Applications -听gain an introduction into Deep Learning approaches and their applications for Machine Learning tasks.听
• Digital Innovation and Transformation - learn the skills, techniques and technologies that are necessary to develop a digital portfolio based on digital transformation in business innovation efforts.听
• Data Visualisation and Storytelling -听develop the skills of data/information visualisation and visual analytics so that you can design efficient and effective data visualisations.听
• Internet and Wide Area Networks -听鈥�investigate the networking aspects such as design principles, implementation in practice, analysis and evaluation of large-scale networked systems.听

Elective听units

• Digital Futures -听drawing from technical, legal and social disciplines, learn about the role of digital technology in society and how it affects the individual.

Access蜜桃AV: Access蜜桃AV provides you with the opportunity to tell us about your circumstances that are not always evident in your UCAS application. This widening access initiative also considers relevant criteria such as being in care or if you live in an area with a low participation rate in Higher Education - if you are eligible, your offer could be up to 16 UCAS tariff points below the published tariff.

Apprenticeships: We recognise the transferable knowledge and skills gained through apprenticeships and welcome applications from students with a Level 3 Advanced Apprenticeship recognised by the Institute for Apprenticeships. Each application will be considered on a case-by-case basis.

Deferred entry: We are happy to consider eligible applicants for deferred entry. If you have already submitted your application, please submit your deferral request through our website.听

Direct entry: We welcome applications from students who have previously studied at degree level at other institutions and wish to transfer onto a 蜜桃AV course. Our Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) procedure enables credit awarded from one institution to contribute to a 蜜桃AV award, subject to an application process. Mature applicants: We recognise that mature applicants may have a wealth of experience rather than formal qualifications, so we鈥檒l consider your application on these merits if included in your application. You鈥檒l need to apply to 蜜桃AV in the usual way through UCAS and you may be invited to an interview to discuss your suitability for the course based on the experience you tell us about in your application.

You will need to be hard-working and committed to your studies, be a good team player, and able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.

We select candidates for this course by looking at your application; there are usually no interviews or selection activities needed. For that reason, make sure your application really stands out from the crowd, and leave us in no doubt as to why you should be joining 蜜桃AV. We look at individual applications and make a tailored offer based on your potential to succeed on the course considering a range of factors, including your academic achievements, work and other experience, reference and personal statement, and in some cases, your performance at an interview or a portfolio review. Typically, we make an offer at the bottom of the tariff range.

If you are unable to meet the entry requirements, we may be able to make you an offer through Access蜜桃AV if you meet certain criteria e.g. you have been in care or live in an area where fewer people typically progress to Higher Education. If you don't meet our published tariff, we will accept you at least 8 points below if your personal circumstances match our Access蜜桃AV criteria.听

Our offer-making will typically be based on your most recent qualifications, including any required subjects where applicable. We'll consider all qualifications when assessing your application, although these may not be part of our offer.

If you do not meet the criteria of your original offer, we may still offer you a place. We will review your whole application and consider all academic qualifications (including those not in the offer) to see if you have the academic potential to succeed on the course. Additional costs

While all aspects of the programme, including required field trips, are included in the fee, additional, optional or extra curricula activities may be available for which a student contribution is required.

I am a lecturer in Computing at 蜜桃AV. I joined 蜜桃AV in March 2015. Prior to this I held a teaching position covering a range of computing subjects. I received my PhD in 2010 from Brunel University. The thesis was titled 鈥淒ata Cleaning Techniques for Software Engineering Data Sets 鈥�. Towards the end of my doctorate I also worked as a research assistant on an EPSRC funded project entitled "Using Program Slicing to Size Code Change".

Dr 脟agatay Y眉cel is a Lecturer in Computer Science (Cybersecurity) in the Department of Computing & Informatics at 蜜桃AV. Prior to this post, he worked as a Postdoctoral researcher and Threat Intelligence Analyst at 蜜桃AV CERT. Yucel received his PhD in 2019 with the thesis titled 鈥淚maging and Evaluating the Memory Access for Malware鈥�. He has specialised and published in the fields of malware analysis, reverse engineering and cyber threat intelligence.

Dr Sofia Meacham received her Diploma in Computer and Informatics Engineering, in 1994, and her PhD degree, in 2000, from University of Patras, Greece. Her research interests fall in the area of system-level design for embedded systems, and include specification techniques for complex embedded telecommunication systems, hardware-software co-design, formal refinement techniques, and reuse practices. Dr Meacham has been working in EU-funded projects as researcher/embedded software engineer both in Industry and in University since 1995, and have accomplished a large amount of teaching experience in several institutions (UK and Greece) since 2000. Specifically, she worked as an embedded software engineer for INTRACOM Telecommunications Solutions and ISD s.a. and has participated in more than 10 research projects funded by the European Commission regarding developing telecommunications systems and system level methodologies. Dr Meacham has published a number of referred articles in International Journals and well known conferences in the area of co-design with particular interest in system level design, design automation tools and real time applications. During the last couple of years, she has experience and publications (scientific committee/chair in conferences for technology in education) on the use of technology in education and eLearning. She is also an active committee member of BCS (British Computer Society) and IET (Institute of Engineering and Technology) for the last three years. During that period, she participated in numerous events giving talks regarding the participation of 鈥渨omen in computing鈥�.

My expertise stands at the interface between Computational Neuroscience and Machine Learning (neural dynamics reconstruction, ensemble modelling, data-driven model discovery, auditory system models) through collaborations with human and animal neurophysiology labs. I actively co-champion the Interdisciplinary Neuroscience Research Centre at 蜜桃AV. I have been an Associate Professor for 蜜桃AV since 2017 (Senior Lecturer/Lecturer, 2012-2017), Editor of Plos Computational Biology and Frontiers in Computational Neuroscience, and a Senior Fellow of the Higher Education Academy. I was a project leader at the Bernstein Centre for Computational Neuroscience Heidelberg-Mannheim (2008-2012) at Durstewitz lab, a Postdoc at Denham lab (Plymouth 2005-2008), and a research fellow of the Spanish Science Ministry (2001-2005). My PhD dissertation (2001, University of Valencia) received the Culture Institute 鈥楯uan Gil-Albert鈥� (Spain) prize.

I am Professor of Networked and Sensing Systems at 蜜桃AV (U.K.), specialising in future and emerging paradigms of networks and networked systems. Previously, I spent 3.5 years as a postdoctoral researcher at University of Geneva (CH) under the prestigious Swiss Government Excellence Scholarship for Foreign Researchers.
I am the founding Program Leader of the three IoT Master courses offered in 蜜桃AV; namely, MSc in Internet of Things, MSc in IoT with Cyber Securtiy, and MSc in IoT with Data Analytics having played a key role in designing and developing the three programmes. I have also founded and lead the 蜜桃AV Open Innovation Lab (OIL) - an R&D lab focusing on emerging technologies, such as Internet of Things, and their role as key technological enablers for innovation. I am also a founding member of the Future & Complex Networks (FlexNet) research group.
In the International landscape, I lead the 蜜桃AV delegation at the International Telecommunication Union (ITU-T). Since 2018, I serve at ITU-T as Associate Rapporteur of Question 5 "Research and emerging technologies, terminology and definitions" in Study Group 20: Internet of Things (IoT) and Smart Cities and Communities (SC&C). I also serve as the Liaison co-Rapporteur of Study Group 20 to the Standardization Committee for Vocabulary (SCV). Finally, in the context of my work on Crowdsourced Systems, I was the Lead Editor of the ITU-T Recommendation (Standard) on 鈥淩equirements and Functional Architecture of IoT-related Crowdsourced Systems鈥� and co-editor of another 2 recommendations on IoT, Artificial Intelligence and smart cities.
