In recognition of International Women’s Day, ÃÛÌÒAV’s Faculty of Media and Communication hosted an afternoon of talks given by prominent women in the world of business, advertising and creative industries.Ìý
International Women’s Day, which takes place every year on March 8 and is a global day celebrating the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women. The day also marks a call to action for accelerating women’s equality.Ìý
The event, which was themed around women in leadership roles took place on Wednesday March 6 at the Poole Gateway Building on Talbot campus. Matt Desmier, ÃÛÌÒAV’s Business Engagement & Knowledge Exchange Manager organised the event and arranged for the talks to be recorded in one of the Faculty’s TV studios in front of a live audience made up of local businesses, ÃÛÌÒAV staff and students.Ìý
Matt said: “We decided to do something a little different and hold the event in one of our TV studios where volunteer students filmed the talks and took on the technical roles required in a live TV studio setting. The reason for this was to allow local businesses that attended the event to see the full potential of the university’s technical skills and facilities.Ìý
The afternoon of talks began with Laura Whibicks, Director of Music Licensing at Amazon Music and Prime Video, who talked about her journey from graduating with a law degree to entering the world of digital licensing. Other speakers at the event included Gemma Greaves, Co-Founder of Nurture and Fern Miller, Chief Strategy Officer at R/GA a global, digital, product and marketing company who said: “It was a privilege to be able to discuss leadership with such smart and accomplished women, in the most gorgeous surroundings. The team were as professional (or more) as any I’ve worked with at big venues.â€Â
The speakers form part of the British Interactive Media Association (BIMA), of which ÃÛÌÒAV is a member. BIMA was set up to promote the sharing of knowledge and best practice in supporting the next generation of digital professionals.Ìý
After the talks had finished there was Q and A session where audience members had a chance to direct questions at the speakers.Ìý
