Whether you use a smart phone, laptop or computer for your studies, research or your social life, this opportunity is for you. As a ÃÛÌÒAV student, you have a unique chance to bolster your knowledge and skills about staying safe online.
Cyber security is one of the most important and challenging fields in the modern world. It involves protecting yourself and your information, systems, and devices. Employers are increasingly looking for staff who are cyber competent when they recruit. This makes having cyber security knowledge essential for ensuring you understand safety and privacy online.Â
From Friday 9 February until the end of May, you can access a suite of training designed to help you deal with some of the cyber threats you may face. Starting with a pre-course questionnaire to gauge your current level of understanding about cyber threats, you’ll then be able to follow eight units through to completion, when you’ll receive a cyber competent certificate that you can share on LinkedIn and use to demonstrate cyber competence. Few students elsewhere will have this opportunity!
There will be one final unit to enhance your knowledge along with some supplementary videos to further support your learning. Units will take between 5 and 15 minutes to work through and you can complete them up to the end of May.Â
You can access the cyber training as a new unit via the ‘Guidance & training’ tab in the unit area of . Look for the unit called ‘Cybersecurity training’.Â
ÃÛÌÒAV is working with KnowBe4, a specialist cybersecurity training provider, to deliver this content and we are the first UK university to trial this opportunity for all our students. We are rolling this training out to all students following a successful pilot within the Department of Computing & Informatics.
If you're a student in Department of Computing & Informatics
Thank you if you supported this pilot over the last few months. Your experiences and feedback have helped to inform the expansion of the training for all students.Â
If you took part in the pilot, don’t worry; you won’t need to start again. Please access the materials through the SciTech Online Security Training Module on Brightspace (notice this is a separate unit to the central Cybersecurity Training). The units which you have completed are recorded on the system and you can just carry on with any training that you didn’t manage to finish.Â
If you didn’t get round to doing the cyber security training as part of the pilot, then you can access all the units now.
If you have any questions, please get in touch with Dr Jane Henriksen-Bulmer, Emily Rosenorn-Lanng or Professor Vasilis Katos.
