Please note: Tuesday 16 May
There will further noisy and vibrational works that are unforeseen as we have found further crane base that we unaware of. The works will be from 10am up to 4 hours. Unfortunately, we are unable to put the works on hold as we would like to deliver the new lift by the beginning of the new term time. Please accept our apologies for the inconvenience this may cause, however these works are imperative to ensure the delivery of the new lift to the Library.
As part of our commitment to improving your student experience, we are adding a new lift to the Sir Michael Cobham Library. Â
This will complement the existing lift and help students and staff to access the upper floors of the building. As well as improving accessibility for everyone, especially wheelchair users, it will also support staff returning books to shelves. A second library lift will provide better service resilience by avoiding reliance solely on the current lift.Â
To construct the new lift shaft, from Tuesday 2 until Monday 15 May the contractor will be carrying piling works to support the existing foundations.
Whilst we have selected the quietest construction methodology, these works will still generate considerable amount of noise and vibrations, which at times are likely to affect the study and working conditions inside of the library building.
There are a number of quiet spaces across our campuses, including the study zones in Weston Library in Bournemouth Gateway Building. Additionally, you can book a room or study space on either campus.
We do apologise for any inconvenience this will cause during this period and we would like to thank students and staff for their continuous support during these works.
The works will be completed in September, ready for the start of the new academic year. The library lift works have been carefully planned to cause a minimal level of disruption during the period.Â
