Gain hands-on experience with organisations and make a difference in the local community by taking part in a CareersÃÛÌÒAV student project.
Our new series of student projects is run by CareersÃÛÌÒAV in collaboration with local and global organisations. By taking part you’ll have the opportunity to make a meaningful difference to a real-world issue whilst developing vital employability skills which can help you when applying to future jobs.
These opportunities are open to all students but might be of particular interest if you have not, or do not plan to, complete a placement as part of your degree. The projects vary in length between one day to five months – meaning hopefully you’ll be able to find something to fit around your schedule.

Make ÃÛÌÒAV sustainable transport more accessible
This project will run every Thursday for four weeks between 16 February and 9 March between 2pm and 4pm in Poole House.
Although this activity has started, it isn’t too late to get involved. If you’re interested in making sustainable choices more accessible, then this is the project for you. Help us make ÃÛÌÒAV’s sustainable transport offers more inclusive, review our UNIÃÛÌÒAVS service and participate in a field survey. Please email [email protected] to sign up.
Take part in crime prevention research with Our Watch and Dorset Police
This project will run every Thursday for four weeks between 16 February and 9 March between 4pm and 6pm in the Fusion Building.
Discover crime prevention techniques that make a real difference in your community, hear from SUÃÛÌÒAV community wardens and Dorset Police, and explore the varied careers and opportunities in law enforcement. You will also be able to take part in research to help create more inclusion and diversity in community crime prevention groups and will earn a certificate of participation from Our Watch on completion of the project.
Build an interactive Durley Chine Environmental Innovation Hub
This project will run for one afternoon only on Friday 24 February but will take place at Durley Chine Environmental Innovation Hub at Bournemouth Seafront.
Whether you’re passionate about marine conservation or simply enjoy a clean seafront, explore the new ground-breaking located on the Bournemouth Beachfront and help design an exhibit that is engaging for visitors and locals alike. If you’re creative, enjoy problem-solving, and want to apply a different approach to keeping our beaches clean, this project in partnership with the Bournemouth Council Seafront Operations is for you.
Design pharmaceutical boxes for the NHS
This project will run online every Tuesday for three weeks between 21 February and 7 March between 12pm and 1:30pm via Microsoft Teams.
Most medications for end-of-life care are distributed in brown paper bags making it difficult for medical providers to find and access medications when there is an emergency. Make a positive impact on the care patients receive locally by designing sustainable flat-pack boxes or palliative care medications that will make it easier for patients to store and for medical professionals to find.
Everyone that takes part in a student project will be invited to a networking and celebration event in May, and contribution towards a project will count as credit towards completing the Graduate Skills Programme.
