BA (Hons) Events and Leisure Marketing students have won the National Outdoor Events Association (NOEA) Student Event of the Year Award.
NOEA is the UK鈥檚 leading outdoor events trade association which recognises the best events in the country from Scotland to Somerset.
The second year students were asked to organise an event for High Mead Community Farm, that they named 鈥楢 Chance to Grow.鈥�
Inspired by one of the Farm鈥檚 animals, the group named themselves 鈥楾eam Goat鈥� and organised the event that was to publicise and raise awareness of the Farm鈥檚 Country Fayre.
Liz Gordon, a tutor on the unit, said: 鈥淭eam Goat liaised very well with the charity and the Wimborne Minster Parish Office to organise the event and represented the university and themselves well.
鈥淭he client was also so pleased with the family feel of the event that they were considering running a similar event in the same location next year, to raise awareness of the charity.鈥�
High Mead Community Farm is a therapeutic farm in Wimborne that offers a range of activities for those with learning and physical disabilities and mental health issues.
Unit leader Dorothy Fox said: 鈥淲e like to work with local charities on this unit and I knew of the great work of High Mead Community Farm.
鈥淚t was really pleasing that the students could not only apply their learning from their first two years of study to the practicalities of organising an event, but also to benefit a charity that undertakes such a worthwhile role.鈥�
The NOEA held its 15th Annual Convention in Bath, which concluded with a ceremony where the NOEA Awards were presented.
One of the students, Sophia Tomalin said: 鈥淲e really enjoyed this unit and working together to create the event for High Mead Farm, so winning this award makes it all the more special.鈥�
High Mead Community Farm said:鈥漈eam Goat marketed High Mead Farm's event very well, great communication and lots of effort went into it.
鈥淗igh Mead Farm gained more exposure as a direct result of the project, therefore attracting a higher level of attendees to our Country Fayre. Nice work Team Goat!"
