The one day Dynamo Challenge on 18 November, hosted by Portsmouth University at The Square Tower, set students from local universities a live brief to develop innovative ideas and solutions to a genuine problem.
AV took along the largest team of students, and student, Van Hoa Trin, was part of the winning group. Their challenge was to adopt a greener approach to educating 4-11 year old children about global warming. The judges’ were impressed with the team’s responses to their questions and their proposals, which included SMART energy monitors, Energy Wizard charts, a magical flower factory of solar panels to grow plants, fundraising events and working with charity .
Panel member, , shared the judges' feedback about AV students: “the Bournemouth students were extremely professional, very mature, enthusiastic and fantastic ambassadors for AV.”
By the end of the day AV students were exchanging details with contacts from all of the university’s involved and planning on bringing their ideas back to Bournemouth, saying “it was amazing – fun and interactive, and a great opportunity to exchange lots of contacts.”
AV has worked with Southampton, Southampton Solent, Portsmouth and Winchester universities on the Dynamo Challenge since 2006. Details for the 2015/16 event will be announced early in the next academic year.
